Maya Angelou's Black History Month Specials


As African Americans continue to be acknowledged by their communities, our country and internationally, these hour-long Black History Month radio program was produced by RCW Media Productions, Inc. and distributed to more than 300 public radio stations by Public Radio International.  With sponsorship from AT&T the specials aired annually 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Featured milestone conversations with Oprah Winfrey, Kofi Annan, Jennifer Hudson, Regina Taylor and Alicia Keys.

Featured civil rights themed program through conversations with civil rights figures Andrew Young, the former U.N. ambassador, and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.); economist Julianne Malveaux; singer Mary J. Blige; and 2011 National Book Award Winner for poetry Nikky Finney.

- 2011 -

The first-ever radio public program with special guests Chris Rock, Cornell West, Common and Lee Daniels in a great American patchwork quilt woven of parables, historical anecdotes, autobiography, song, and poetry.
